Provo River Fishing Report For 4/17/12
Provo River
The Provo is starting to increase their flows. The middle is steady at 150 cfs and the lower 250 cfs. It is fishing well for both sections. The blue wings are still coming of at around noon to 3. In the last week we have been fishing rs2′s (16′s) and Barr’s emergers (18′s) and doing well with a size 16 sow bug as the trailer fly. We also were throwing a Mike’s H2O hotty and doing very well. The PMD’s will be coming off in the coming month, so we tied on some PMD emergers and did well on those as well. The flows will increase in the coming weeks and make wading a little more difficult so be careful! Book a trip with Utah fly fishing guides, that tell the truth only when talking about fishing.
- Blue Winged Olive
- Sow
- H20 Hotty
- Chironomid
Strawberry Reservoir
The ice is coming off quick and the fishing is epic! Use a Chironomid under a strike indicator or strip black leeches and wooley buggers. Cast to the edge of the ice and wait for some great action.
Utah Lake
The walleye are at the end of their spawn. People are still doing well out at Bird Island and at Sandy Beach. A curly tail jig in a dark color like tequila sunrise or junebug works well. The white bass are about to spawn and will be headed up the rivers and creeks, use a small spinner or curly tail jig. The Largemouth will start to show up in the harbors in the coming weeks to make their beds for the May spawn. I love a spinner-bait in orange and neon green to get those bass off their beds or a big craw pattern slowly worked parallel to shore.
