Provo River Fly Fishing Report 8/19/2012
The Provo River has been pretty bipolar of late. One day it’s excellent and the next day it can be pretty tough to get into fish. The days that are best are the days when the PMD’s come off strong around 4-7. Those days use split case pmd patterns, flashback pheasant tails, baetis and orange sows. When it hits 8 pm put on a caddis larvae on the bottom and a caddis pupae about 18 inches from your bottom fly. It can get pretty fast and furious during that time period since the caddis’ start to come off around 8:15. The dry fly fishing can be great as well with a size 16 tan bodied elk hair around 8-dark. Again avoid the morning fishing if you can. We have been moving all our trips to the afternoon due to it’s consistency.
