Provo River/Diamond Fork
Park city fly fishing
The flows have dropped considerably on both the lower and the middle. The middle is fishing a lot better right now. We are in transition heading into the spawn starting in late October to mid December. The fishing will be a little more difficult as the fish start to get ready to spawn and the major hatches are all but done for the year. The PMD’s are tapering off on both of them. The hopper fishing has been good on the middle during the 1-4 hour. Fish midge patterns in the early morning and sows, switch to pmd nymphs in the afternoon like flashback pheasant tails, shoners, John cotton Candy’s, tbrr split cases. The evening is still seeing caddis’ coming off and can be a lot of fun.
Diamond Fork is fishing phenomenal right now with hopper dropper. Put on a size 12 Dave’s hopper or dark foam body hopper patterns. The fish haven’t been too picky on the hoppers as long as they are size 12′s and darker patterns. Trail the hopper with 18 inches of leader with a beadhead san juan, beadhead sow, pheasant tail, John cotton Candy, shoner, caddis larva. We fished it today and they took the dry 9 times out of ten. If the water color is really off use a wine colored san juan.
